March 24, 2020 - When I Woke Up This Morning!

When I woke up this morning I had no doubt that this too shall pass. My attention was driven to Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

With that being said, staying home does not mean you are afraid, it simply means that you are using good judgement. We have been advised over and over again to stay home. Please, I advise you to stay home. You have heard me say many times that the shepherd's job is to protect his or her sheep. In an effort to protect the sheep of Grace UMC, I urge you to stay home and experience the peace and love of God.

Jesus tells us we will have struggles, troubles in this world; however he promises us we will have victory through our faith because Jesus Christ has overcome the world. As I continue to think about this Pandemic (coronavirus), I can't help but think about those who will be facing tomorrow without jobs and facing hard times. I pray that all of us will go forward determined to be an overcomer. Being an overcomer may require some of us to help others overcome.

Right now I believe God is requiring the world to be still and know that He is God. Now can be and should be the time we search for direction in the midst of these circumstances. Pay attention and know that this is a time that we can get closer to God.  I don't know about you, but I have appreciated our home more than ever. For some reason I feel safe and secure. I feel as if it is my refuge in a time such as this. With that being said, "Stay home."

Now is a time that we can appreciate the simple things of life and different ways of serving God. We may feel cut off from the world and its activities, but continue to be still before the Lord for He is with us.

When I woke up this morning I had a new appreciation for life, my wife, my children, brothers, sister, friends, church members, neighbors, etc. Why, because all of them have shown in some small special way the importance of caring and loving people in your life. I admonish you to do something today that makes you feel good about yourself. Send someone a letter, text message, email or call on telephone. Let someone know you care about them. Select someone who would not expect you to be in touch with them. Find a way to share a word of encouragement with someone today.
