March 25, 2020 - Ignorance

"For the heart of  this people has become dull, with their ears they scarcely hear, and they have closed their eyes, otherwise they would see with their eyes, hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and I would heal them." Matthew 13:15

When I woke up this morning I could not help but think about a conversation my wife had with a neighbor on yesterday regarding coronavirus. The neighbor could not understand why people are not going to work, why churches are closed, why only essential places of business are opened, why quarantines, etc. Before I gave serious thought to her total conversation, I responded by saying to my wife, "anybody who does not see and understand what is going on today with this coronavirus is just ignorant." After giving thought to what I said, I softened my wording by using the word uninformed rather than ignorance. Later in the night something in my spirit said, "you were right, stick with the term ignorant as it relates to the devastation or crisis we are experiencing."

If we are informed and I do pray that we are hearing and receiving with clarity what is happening throughout the world. I pray that we might open our eyes and see beyond our own our own understanding. I pray that we will open up our ears and hear clearly from sources that are transparent. Let us pray for anyone who is misleading or misguiding the people in this time of disbelief. Before we make judgement calls, pleases know the facts first. Someone on yesterday said to me, "they need, meaning congress needs to approve the 2 trillion dollar stimulus package regardless of the differences of opinion. After reviewing the facts, I determined that initially big businesses were going to receive the brunt of the funding. As of this morning we know that the decision goes beyond big businesses. Praise the Lord!

What is my point for today? Let's not be ignorant or uninformed about what is happening in our communities. As of today the numbers of deaths and positive cases continue to accelerate. Please continue to practice social distancing, washing your hands, staying in if at all possible and continue praying for healing throughout the land. It is not business as usual.

May we pray for healing throughout the world? Pray for our leaders that they may see, hear and understand what is best for all of us at this time. May we give more thought of saving lives than saving the economy? The economy will rebound, but life is too valuable to lose due to ignorance. To all believers, yes we look forward to eternal life, but I believe there is still work to be done on this side if it is God's will.

As we look at the text and as it makes reference to God's Word, we know that there are those who do not hear, eyes are closed and lack understanding. Please read the entire chapter of Matthew 13. The four types of soil represent (a) those who are hardened, (b) those who are shallow, (c) those who are distracted by worrying and (d) those who are receptive. May we continue to rely on God's Word to provide hope and encouragement?

Not a sermon, just a thought.
