Grief Share Ministry

Grief Share Ministry

Grace United Methodist Grief Share Ministry provides an opportunity for persons who have had spouses to die to come together on the third Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. to share their feelings, progress in healing, challenges, etc. The opportunity presents itself in this informal setting for each participant to discuss anything relative to the death of the spouse and how to move forward. The Grief Share Ministry is using as a supplement guide, Journeying through Grief, by Kenneth C. Haugk. Our pastor Robert E. Slade is the facilitator for the sessions along with coordinator Sister Carmelita Walker. We have been blessed to witness the progress individuals have made by attending these sessions. There is an expectation that each person will be transparent about where they are in the grieving process so that we might make suggestions. The participants gain strength from the mere fact that they are in the presence of persons who have experienced the same pain, but to be in a position of overcoming the pain with this support system. In the near future, the Grief Share Ministry will be hosting field trips outings for members of the ministry. The sessions are open to members and non-members of Grace UMC. As a church family, we understand the pain that a person has to endure when a spouse dies, but no one can feel the pain a person feels except themselves. All sessions are non- threatening and voluntary. If you wish to know more about this ministry, please feel free to contact Pastor Slade at 301-292-7828.
